“afterimage of a sunset”

sometimes you only see
how beautiful a sunset
can be
after the light is
no longer shining so
bright in your eyes.

the afterimage
burns a memory
of the darkness
that becomes of
what was once
so blinding when
she was the one.

sometimes
all you need
is
to remember
and
sometimes
all you need
is
to forget
and
sometimes
all you need
is
to talk it out
as the sun goes down
on the cascades and
the fire juggler sets
the drum circle ablaze
and the fire trucks come
to put it out and we shout,
"down in front!"

sometimes you only see
how beautiful a sunset
can be
after it is pitch black
with no chance til dawn.

embrace the unknown.
your eyes will adjust
to discover the light
inside
this blinding darkness;
the
afterimage of a sunset
or
silent farts in a car.
