“Forgiveness”

Like the cat
cold and wet
waiting
to come back
in.

Waiting for
it
like a reprieve,
as they push
the silver tray
before us.

Some of us
wait
our lifetime.
Some of us
just
in a moment.
The few of us
who give it—
We feel strength
in relieving
the burden.

But we still have
our anger,
our questions,
our decisions,
our desires.
And we sit alone,
very quiet,
and wonder
how we allow this one
to ever have the power
to destroy us.

So we forgive the other
but never ourselves;
Because
although we did not deserve it,
we certainly
did something
to earn it.

Forgiveness.
