“the old work”

the old work is complete;
actualized
and for what it was
when it was, it was
the best i could make.

the new work,
on the other hand, waits
like key wound clocks.
my plans locking out
the gears until tension
breaks all will and I
create
that which I waited for
to begin
so long
ago.

the old work
and
the new work
are
all the same
but set upon
differing
landscapes
of decades.
