“THE RECOVERY ROOM”

Beneath white linen
her two skinned knees
rest like still life lemons;
Zest twirls spiraling out
like red pencil shavings
fresh on the blade.

Bactine on cotton balls;
pink beside the sink.
She lays perfect
as a specimen;
Wings pinned.
Beautiful wings.
