“THE SUN AFTER A STORM”

We wake to it;
blazingly bright.
Surprised it's there
on a blue sky
with no cloud in sight,
after the dark night
of loud blinking light.
We think it will last.
Yes. This, surely
is a sign; a new day.
This gift will stay.
But we are fools.
We know
more rain is on the way.
More rain
is always
on
the way.
But let's be fools today.
Let's be fools and forget
why the grass we play on
is wet.
Let's pretend
we can make this last
longer than it has
in the past.
