“THERE WILL ALWAYS BE”

There will always be
those who use GOD and prayer to HE
as a weapon toward those who do not
BELIEVE the same as THEY;
The righteous and chosen
majority, spawning more hatred
than love. There will always be
those stone throwers and more.

States away, I hear them cackling
heavy hairs through squinched up nostrils.
Laughing out loud at all
who differ.
The girl reads her speech. It is high
school graduation. She begins.

“I am of the Christian faith.
I respect those who do not share
in the same beliefs that I do
BUT
at this time I would like to
give thanks to the GOD…”

The crowd cheers wildly, hooting,
hollering spite like venom.
Another moment of defiance
by the majority. How brave.
She leads them to bow their heads
and pray but
the crowd is still moaning wildly,
anticipating,
“… in Jesus name I pray. Amen.”

Another moment of defiance
by the majority, followed by
a moment of silence for the minority.

There will always be
those who use GOD and prayer to HE
as a weapon toward those who do not.

There will always be
those molesters of democracy,
entitling the majority—
forgetting freedom of religion
at their convenience.

But then, there will always be
Men like Damon Fowler.
Men who stand while the rest sit.
Men like Martin Luther King Jr.
Men who sit while the rest stand.
Men like Ghandi.
Men like the men Fathers are
in fairy tales.

There will always be
these men and more.
