“THE TRICK”

Love like magic
scarves
stuffed up sleeves.
Days seem forever
with no end
but is merely love's
best trick
set upon perception.
Each drags out
until there are
no more
and it is time
finally
for the woman to be
sawed in half
and wheeled
off. A flash of flame
distracts my eyes
as a deck of cards
rain from the sky.
Jokers and Jacks;
Two of a kind.
The show is not over,
though the dove flies
out of sight; still
in mind.
Love like magic,
it conjures itself
only to vanish.
A lone illusion,
but still I marvel.
Love, I had you hidden
behind my ear
all along.
Love like magic,
all I am left with is
change.
